The Cetus Protocol hack, being one of the largest DeFi hacks in 2025, has seen dramatic twists today. Following the disastrous May 22, 2025’s attack, when estimates pegged losses at $260 million, Cetus Protocol announced a detailed plan to reimburse all affected users in full, which signified a strong commitment to restoring confidence in the Sui and Aptos networks.

Cetus Protocol Hack: A Path to Recovery

On May 28, 2025, Cetus Protocol revealed that it would reimburse 100% of the stolen assets from the Cetus Protocol hack.

The concentrated liquidity market maker (CLMM) model decentralized exchange will utilize its treasury reserves and a Sui Foundation loan to cover the loss.

The announcement follows a chaotic week in which the hack drained liquidity from big pools, such as SUI/USDC, lowering token prices like $CETUS by over 16%.

To proceed with the refund, Cetus is tapping into a community governance vote to unlock the funds. If supported, the move ensures all users affected are fully compensated, an unusual and ambitious gesture within the DeFi space.

The news has already come with a positive market response, with $CETUS token prices increasing by about 30% to $0.165, reflecting investor optimism.

Building Trust After the Cetus Protocol Hack

The Cetus Protocol hack exposed DeFi security flaws, which Cetus responded to promptly. In addition to freezing stolen funds worth $162 million in collaboration with Sui Foundation and Inca Digital, the team released a complete incident report on May 27, detailing the cause and prevention measures. Today’s refund plan reaffirms Cetus’s dedication to transparency and the protection of users.
