Pump.fun, a meme coin launchpad on Solana, pushed back its most-awaited token launch from June 25 to sometime in July. Wu Blockchain reported on June 21, 2025, citing sources close to the firm, in an announcement. The delay came after the founder, Alon’s and the platform’s X accounts were temporarily suspended, reportedly after a warning from the SEC. The regulator warned that certain activities on the platform may be in violation of U.S. securities laws and suggested consulting with an attorney.

This is the latest of a series of token launch postponements, and it was initially scheduled for later in 2024. Despite Pump.fun’s blockbuster run, earning over $700 million in revenue within a period of two years, this type of approach to raising $1 billion at a valuation of $4 billion has been met with skepticism. Detractors have pointed to the lack of public disclosure of token structure, use case, and distribution plan as warning signs.

The crypto sphere has been in a frenzy speculating on the true intentions of the huge capital raising. Though Pump.fun may have become such a core part of Solana’s meme token ecosystem, acting as an origination platform for viral tokens, if it is not being undertaken in an open tokenomics model, it raises suspicions. The recent freezing of accounts, though temporary, did not help quash the doubts. Both the primary Pump.fun and Alon’s X accounts were deactivated briefly before being re-enabled—an incident that probably had a significant role to play in it being one of the factors to postpone going live until legality issues and being in compliance are duly worked out.
