Bro really chose to be at his parents’ home after staging his death.
Zerebro‘s co-founding member, Jeffy Yu, age 22, has been discovered alive at his parents’ house within San Francisco’s Crocker-Amazon neighborhood on May 9, 2025. This follows a livestream on May 4, 2025, during which Yu pretended to commit suicide, igniting widespread speculation and fanning outrage within the crypto community.
He was spotted near a two-story house in informal attire and seemingly agitated when he was approached by community journalists, a report by The San Francisco Standard said. He refused, however, to speak about either the phony obituary or his alleged earnings, and objected to his privacy being invaded and for his family’s protection, asking for the journalists to depart.
The initial death story of Yu began with a Pump.fun livestream, then an automatic blog post announcing that a 72-hour dead man’s switch had been activated. Yu also published a manifesto explaining the concept of Legacoins and LLJEFFY, a Solana-based meme coin which he introduced as his final art piece and digital tomb. LLJEFFY pumped a whopping 2,115% with a market capitalization of nearly $105 million. On-chain data by Bubblemaps, however, showed that wallets linked with Yu sold $1.4 million worth of tokens shortly after his reported death, which led to a 98% crash to $13.8 million.
Some discrepancies were encountered upon investigation. The video livestream showed an orange light effect, and not a muzzle flash, so that remained uncertain. Yu’s wallets were still open on the blockchain, according to Bubblemaps. The Legacy.com obituary, a paid site with a 1.3-star rating on Trustpilot, was later removed. The local coroner’s office further confirmed for Decrypt that there was no record of a death of any individual by that name within that jurisdiction at that time. Zerebro’s official handles made no public statement concerning Yu’s death.
These incidents have been accused of being an exit scam, with others within the cryptocurrency community speculating that Yu faked his death so he could exit LLJEFFY’s pump-and-dump scheme. Even Reddit’s users suggested a special blockchain funeral for Yu, which reflected the community’s mixed reactions about what had transpired. The incident has prompted arguments about accountability and ethics over such activities within the cryptocurrency community.
